5A-2 Region II District 7 Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Alton Henderson Delivers Best Performance of Season

Marshall came up short on Friday despite Alton Henderson delivering his best game to date. Henderson rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 193 yards and a touchdown, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 63 yards.

For the year, Henderson has thrown 5 touchdowns while averaging 101.8 passing yards per game. That doesn't tell the whole story though: at this point last year, he was only averaging 1.67 rushing yards per game. This year he is averaging 59.83 rushing yards.

Javari Johnson Goes Supernova in Texas Win

Texas picked up their seventh consecutive win on Friday thanks in part to Javari Johnson. Johnson did his part (and then some), rushing for 161 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry for the 'W'. He is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

If the past is any indication, Johnson could be in store for another big game when he takes on Mt. Pleasant on Friday. Johnson rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries the last time he and Mt. Pleasant duked it out back in September of 2023.

Texas Wins Seventh-Straight Thanks to Tradarian Ball

Texas picked up their seventh consecutive win on Friday thanks in part to Tradarian Ball. Marshall had no answer to Ball as he rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also picked up 47 receiving yards. Ball is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

If history really does repeat itself, Ball might just drop another big game when he faces off against Mt. Pleasant on Friday. Back in September of 2023 (the last time Ball saw Mt. Pleasant), he rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also caught a touchdown.
