Basketball Game Preview: KIPP Columbus Jaguars vs. Cristo Rey Cougar

The KIPP Columbus Jaguars will take on the Cristo Rey Cougar in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cristo Rey took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on KIPP Columbus, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with five losses in a row dating back to last season, KIPP Columbus turned things around against Academy for Urban Scholars on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 56-9 victory over the Centurion Hawks. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Jaguars considering their nine-point performance the contest before.

Meanwhile, Cristo Rey was not able to break out of their rough patch last Saturday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were beaten by Miami Valley 59-28. One positive for the Cougar, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

KIPP Columbus will have to contain Amani Via as she made an impact in Cristo Rey's last game. She posted 13 points.

The win got KIPP Columbus back to even at 1-1. As for Cristo Rey, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Everything came up roses for KIPP Columbus against Cristo Rey in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, as the team secured a 62-15 victory. Will KIPP Columbus repeat their success, or does Cristo Rey have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
