Basketball Recap: Lunna Reyes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lytle over Hondo

It was a good run, but Lytle unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the Hondo Owls, falling 49-29. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 36-26 back in December of 2024.

Lytle's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lunna Reyes, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 19 rebounds. Reyes has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more boards the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aliana Cardenas, who posted two points in addition to 15 rebounds and eight assists.

Even though they lost, Lytle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive matchups.

Lytle's defeat dropped their record down to 10-17. As for Hondo, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season.

Lytle will take on Crystal City at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hondo has already played their next game (against Cotulla), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
