Softball Recap: Luther Prep Drops Highest Score of Season Against Catholic Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Luther Prep). Everything went their way against the Catholic Central Hilltoppers on Friday as they made off with a 19-4 win. Considering the Phoenix have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Addy Schmidt made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lydia Vasold was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Those doubles were her first of the season. Myah Pederson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two triples and two runs.

Luther Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matchups.

Luther Prep's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Catholic Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Luther Prep will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Country Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Catholic Central, they will head out to square off against Brookfield Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
