Basketball Game Preview: Fike Demons vs. Smithfield-Selma Spartans

Fike is 9-1 against Smithfield-Selma since December of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Fike Demons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Smithfield-Selma Spartans at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fike has ten straight victories, Smithfield-Selma has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Fike is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Southern Nash, posting an 82-47 win. The Demons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 35 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Jamaria Freeman, who shot 6-for-8 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 39 points and ten boards. Her evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Jewel Brewington was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards.

Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma played a tough game back in December of 2024 in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 50-16 defeat at the hands of Hunt. The Spartans were down 37-10 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Fike's victory bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Smithfield-Selma, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Everything came up roses for Fike against Smithfield-Selma in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 50-13 win. Will Fike repeat their success, or does Smithfield-Selma have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
