Softball Recap: George Washington Prep Drops Season-High Score on Hawkins

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask George Washington Prep). They were the clear victors by a 42-30 margin over the Hawkins Hawks on Monday. Considering the Generals have won five games by more than 11 runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

George Washington Prep got a massive performance out of Emily Varela, who got on base in all seven of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. With that strong performance, Varela is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Michelle Barrientos was another key player, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all seven of her plate appearances.

George Washington Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

George Washington Prep is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 23.5 runs over those games. As for Hawkins, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.
