Baseball Game Preview: Vardaman Rams vs. Smithville Seminoles

The Vardaman Rams are taking a road trip to take on the Smithville Seminoles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vardaman will be strutting in after a win while Smithville will be coming in after a defeat.

Vardaman took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Water Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Vardaman won by a run and slipped past Water Valley 7-6. The victory was some much needed relief for the Rams as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Brady White made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Vardaman: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 2-4 otherwise. White was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jack Moore was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Taylen Carter also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Smithville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 9-5 to Marion County.

Clay Eaton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Chance Riggan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Smithville's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Vardaman, their record now sits at 4-5.

Vardaman was able to grind out a solid win over Smithville when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 9-4. Does Vardaman have another victory up their sleeve, or will Smithville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
