The Fremont Eagles will challenge the Fort Wayne Northrop Bruins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Fremont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Fremont turned things around against Lakeland on Thursday. They came out on top against the Lakers by a score of 7-4.
Mallorie Huffnagle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Chloe Verdin and Myleigh Carper did most of the damage at the plate: Verdin went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Carper went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs Carper has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Lexi Stevens, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Fremont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 6-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne Northrop came up short against Norwell on Friday and fell 7-4. The Bruins have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Fort Wayne Northrop saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Baylee Huth, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Fremont's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Fort Wayne Northrop, they now also have a losing record of 9-10.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fremont hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Fort Wayne Northrop struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fremont couldn't quite get it done against Fort Wayne Northrop in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 as they fell 7-3. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
