Basketball Recap: Belvidere North Takes a Loss

Belvidere North lost against Freeport back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Belvidere North Blue Thunder took a blow against the Freeport Pretzels, falling 69-36. While losing is never fun, the Blue Thunder can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 426th, while the Pretzels are ranked 123rd).

Freeport found their leader in sophomore Paityn London, who dropped a double-double with 32 points and ten rebounds. London also grabbed seven steals, which is notable because Freeport is 22-3 when she posts at least five steals, but 2-4 otherwise. Aaliyonna Fane was another key player, going 5-for-10 en route to 14 points and eight boards.

Belvidere North has been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 18 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-22 record this season. As for Freeport, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-7.

Coming up, Belvidere North will head out to take on Belvidere at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Belvidere North is facing Belvidere at the right time seeing as Belvidere is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Freeport, they will host Boylan Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
