Basketball Recap: Greenville Comets vs. Litchfield Purple Panthers

In what's become a running theme this season, the Greenville Comets gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They really took it to Litchfield for the full four quarters, racking up a 57-12 win on the road. While fans of Greenville might be used to big wins, the 45-point margin marked the team's biggest victory yet this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Greenville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emma Veith, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Katie Campbell was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Despite the loss, Litchfield had strong showings from Chloe Law, who scored eight points, and Madi Jenkins, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Litchfield struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They are winless (0-4) when they just don't pass the ball.

The victory makes it two in a row for Greenville and bumps their season record up to 16-9. As for Litchfield, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-23.

Greenville will be playing at home against the Vandals at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Vandalia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 567th, while the Comets are ranked 155th). As for Litchfield, they will head out on the road to square off against the Piasa Birds at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
