Football Recap: Cortez Comes Up Short

The Cortez Colts took a blow against the Scottsdale Christian Academy Eagles on Friday, falling 56-8. The Colts have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Cortez still got an impressive performance from Jamerrius Anthony, who rushed for 82 yards and one score.

Sean Helgeson produced another solid effort throwing for 230 yards and four touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes, and also rushing for 40 yards for Scottsdale Christian Academy. Helgeson is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for four or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ben Watkins, who rushed for 92 yards and one TD on only eight carries.

Cortez's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Scottsdale Christian Academy, their victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0.

Cortez has already played their next game, a 26-3 win against Fountain Hills on the 10th. As for Scottsdale Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 40-34 victory against Phoenix Christian on the 11th.
