Football Recap: Collierville Falls Short Against Ranked Oxford

Collierville is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Oxford. The Dragons fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 39-36.

Collierville's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Autry, Lawrence, who rushed for 151 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Cayson Stanford, who rushed for 35 yards and one TD.

Even if they lost, Collierville's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Oxford's side was Tristin Plumee, who made seven total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended eight passes.

Drew Dean was nothing short of spectacular for Oxford: he threw for 365 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 32 yards and one score. Those 365 passing yards gave Dean a new career-high. A healthy portion of Dean's aerial production (134 yards to be exact) went to Christian Fields, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Collierville's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Collierville will head out to face off against Horn Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Oxford, they will venture away from home to square off against South Panola at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
