Softball Game Preview: Medfield Warriors vs. Dedham Marauders

The Medfield Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Dedham Marauders at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Medfield has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Medfield managed to slip by Hopkinton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Warriors came up short against the Hillers on Wednesday, falling 12-0.

Meanwhile, Dedham fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Millis on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mohawks by a score of 2-1. The Marauders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sophia Barone spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on ten hits.

At the plate, Nicole Andrews was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Emmy Lange also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Dedham's loss dropped their record down to 6-5-1. As for Medfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Medfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Dedham struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Medfield might still be hurting after the 14-0 loss they got from Dedham when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
