Baseball Recap: Girard Comes Up Short

Girard lost against South Range last Wednesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Indians fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 3-2.

Dominick Tolone was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Will Hynes was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times he's played.

Girard's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for South Range, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Girard will head out on the road to take on Poland Seminary at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Indians 3.8, the Bulldogs 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for South Range, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Canfield at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in the Raiders' favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while the Cardinals have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
