Basketball Recap: Southside Takes a Loss

After flying high against Poteau last Monday, Southside came back down to earth. The Southside Mavericks fell just short of the Webb City Cardinals by a score of 55-52 on Thursday. The Mavericks were probably out for revenge after losing 54-48 to them when the teams met back in December of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Webb City got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Travien Turner out in front who went 7 of 13 en route to 15 points and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Turner a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Holton Keith, who posted 19 points and three steals.

Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Southside will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Bentonville at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. As for Webb City, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-50 defeat against Raymore-Peculiar on the 13th.
