Basketball Recap: Jocelynn James Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Las Animas

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hoehne, Swink was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They managed a 22-17 victory over the Las Animas Trojans. The score was all tied up 9-9 at the break, but the Lions were the better team in the second half.

Swink's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jocelynn James, who posted nine points.

When it comes to explaining why Las Animas lost, don't look at Emma Netherton. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 boards. Netherton is becoming a predictor of Las Animas' success: when she posts at least ten rebounds the team is 5-1 (and 3-5 when she doesn't).

Swink is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points per game. As for Las Animas, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Swink will face off against Crowley County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Las Animas, they will take on Cheraw at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Las Animas' defense has only allowed 29.8 points per game this season, so Cheraw's offense will have their work cut out for them.
