Softball Game Preview: Ilwaco Fishermen vs. Hoquiam Grizzlies

The Ilwaco Fishermen are taking a road trip to face off against the Hoquiam Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ilwaco will be strutting in after a win while Hoquiam will be coming in after a defeat.

Ilwaco will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Wahkiakum on Tuesday. The Fishermen put the hurt on the Mules with a sharp 16-1 victory. The Fishermen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Hoquiam fell victim to Pe Ell/Willapa Valley and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against Pe Ell/Willapa Valley, falling 10-0. The loss continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their meetings with Pe Ell/Willapa Valley: they've now lost three in a row.

Ilwaco pushed their record up to 8-6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hoquiam, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14-2.
