Recap: Riverside Chargers vs. Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack
The Riverside Chargers had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They wrapped up 2023 with a 67-53 victory over Elgin/Pope John. For Riverside, this counts as revenge for the 46-32 defeat Elgin/Pope John walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November.
Riverside's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drew Carraher, who scored 16 points. The game was Carraher's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Schalk, who scored 15 points.
Riverside is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Elgin/Pope John, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Riverside won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Madison at 3:45 p.m. on December 29th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jeremiah Sanchez and Carraher. As for Elgin/Pope John, they will be playing at home against Bloomfield at 5:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024.
