Basketball Recap: Jellico Takes a Loss

Jellico lost against Clay County back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Jellico Blue Devils fell 77-68 to the Clay County Bulldogs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (55), the Blue Devils still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Jellico saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gavin Dabney almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Dabney a new career-high in steals (six). Another player making a difference was Caleb Rose, who went 6-for-14 en route to 17 points and four steals.

Jellico has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-13 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points over those games. As for Clay County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Coming up, Jellico and Harriman will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. Clay County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
