Softball Recap: Academy for Academic Excellence Knights vs. Hesperia Christian Patriots

After flying high against Norton Science & Language Academy last Tuesday, Academy for Academic Excellence came back down to earth. The Academy for Academic Excellence Knights took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hesperia Christian Patriots on Monday. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Haylee Berg was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Reagan Archuleta made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

Academy for Academic Excellence now has a losing record of 4-5-1. As for Hesperia Christian, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-4-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy for Academic Excellence will head out to challenge Victor Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Academy for Academic Excellence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Hesperia Christian, they will challenge Immanuel Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Hesperia Christian knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Immanuel Christian likes a good challenge.
