Basketball Recap: Gayville-Volin Comes Up Short

After flying high against Flandreau Indian last Thursday, Gayville-Volin came back down to earth. The Gayville-Volin Raiders took a blow against the Freeman Flyers on Thursday, falling 62-29. The Raiders were red-hot offensively heading into the matchup (they scored no less than 55 points in the three games prior), but the Flyers' defense proved too tough.

Freeman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from David Walter, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine boards. Walter is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in each of the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Aasen, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Gayville-Volin's defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Freeman, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Gayville-Volin is taking a road trip to take on Centerville on Saturday. As for Freeman, they will welcome Kimball/White Lake at 7:15 p.m. on February 28th. One thing working in Freeman's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 14 contests.
