Softball Recap: Orleans Sets Scoring Season-High Against Shoals

Orleans had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They were the clear victors by a 23-2 margin over the Shoals Jug Rox on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Ava Cooper and Ella Owens were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Cooper pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. Meanwhile, Owens tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Cooper went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Owens went 3-for-4 with three runs. That's the most runs Owens has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Cambree Cline was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Lilah Cheatham was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.

Orleans kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Orleans has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Shoals, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Looking ahead, Orleans will face off against North Daviess at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Shoals does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
