Volleyball Recap: St. Joseph Academy Wins Going Away Against Mentor

St. Joseph Academy's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Mentor Cardinals as they made off with a 3-0 victory. The Jaguars not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since September 6th (when they won 3-0).

The win didn't come easy: Mentor scored at least 18 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-22, 25-18.

Anne Culkar paced St. Joseph Academy's offense, picking up 16 kills. Culkar got some help from Stella Welch and her 38 assists. Welch was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Despite the loss, Mentor saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ava Garrett had 11 digs and five assists. Garrett is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last five games she's played.

The victory got St. Joseph Academy back to even at 9-9. As for Mentor, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five matches and leaves them with a 14-5 record.

St. Joseph Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against St. Ursula Academy on the 4th. As for Mentor, they will take on Lorain at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
