Baseball Recap: Indio Comes Up Short

After flying high against Cathedral City last Thursday, Indio came back down to earth. The Indio Rajahs fell just short of the Pioneer Titans by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The Rajahs were not able to make up for their loss to the Titans from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Jose Rodriguez was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-low in hits. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Four bases. while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases.

Rodriguez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Luis Olivarez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Those two hits gave Olivarez a new career-high.

Indio's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Pioneer, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Indio will welcome Arroyo Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Arroyo Valley will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Indio surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pioneer, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Bell Gardens at 3:15 p.m. Pioneer's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Bell Gardens' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
