The Norco Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Laguna Beach Breakers at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Norco will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Norco is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They put the hurt on Centennial with a sharp 9-2 win. Considering the Cougars have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Dylan Seward, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Elijah Alvarez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Laguna Beach came out on top against Summit on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Breakers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the SkyHawks. Winning may never get old, but the Breakers sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Thomas Gonzales made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Laguna Beach let Lucien Reed and Becker Sybirski run wild. Reed went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Sybirski got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Yencho, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Norco pushed their record up to 21-8 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Laguna Beach, their record now sits at 25-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Norco has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Laguna Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
