Softball Game Preview: Catskill Cats vs. Germantown Clippers

The Catskill Cats are taking a road trip to challenge the Germantown Clippers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Catskill will be strutting in after a win while Germantown will be coming in after a defeat.

Catskill took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Cairo-Durham, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cats narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Mustangs 9-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cats.

The team relied heavily on Ava Edmonds, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mia Story, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Germantown's offense. They came up short against Taconic Hills on Thursday, falling 12-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Clippers were not able to get on the board.

Catskill's record is now 5-9. As for Germantown, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Germantown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Catskill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. It's a different story for Germantown, though, as they've only averaged .331. Will they be able to contain Catskill's hitters?

Catskill couldn't quite get it done against Germantown in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 10-6. Can the Cats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
