Preview: Englewood Pirates vs. Platte Canyon Huskies

Englewood is 3-0 against Platte Canyon since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Englewood Pirates will look to defend their home court against the Platte Canyon Huskies at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Englewood's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of Arvada by a score of 71-69.

Even though Platte Canyon has not done well against Jefferson recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Platte Canyon came out on top against Jefferson by a score of 66-59. The victory was just what Platte Canyon needed coming off of a 65-42 defeat in their prior contest.

Englewood's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-14. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Platte Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season.

Englewood didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Platte Canyon in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 63-58 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Platte Canyon's Grant Culpepper, who scored 22 points along with four steals. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Englewood to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
