Volleyball Recap: Smithtown West's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

After a string of five wins, Smithtown West's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They came up short against the Hauppauge Eagles, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Smithtown West has suffered since November 2, 2024.

Smithtown West was not able to win a set, but it sure wasn't from a lack of trying: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-23, 25-22.

Taylor Marsh paced Smithtown West's offense, picking up 12 kills. Marsh got some help from Kalia Wheeler and her 16 assists. Wheeler was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Hauppauge can attribute much of their success to Brooke Tarasenko, who had eight digs and three aces. That's the most aces Tarasenko has posted over her last seven matches.

Smithtown West's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 22-5-2. As for Hauppauge, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-4.
