Baseball Recap: St. Maries Comes Up Short

St. Maries had lost six straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-13 to make it seven. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Priest River Spartans. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Priest River, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

For Priest River's part, Jacob Best made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Best has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one double.

In other batting news, Colton Kuprienko was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Karsen Garvin was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
