Basketball Recap: Winslow's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Winslow had lost six straight headed into Friday's match, but Kaitlyn Belone didn't let it get to seven. The Winslow Bulldogs came out on top against the Alchesay Falcons by a score of 57-49 on Friday thanks in part to Belone, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 19 points along with five assists and four steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024.

The team also got some help courtesy of Tatum Henling, who posted ten points. She is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

Despite the loss, Alchesay had strong showings from Lenea Lavender, who went 6 of 15 en route to 17 points, and Ramona Gregg, who went 6 for 8 on her way to 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Kamare Classay also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Winslow's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-15. As for Alchesay, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season.

Winslow will take on Show Low at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Show Low's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Winslow has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. As for Alchesay, they will face off against Holbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
