Softball Recap: Fortuna Beats Mckinleyville for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Fortuna came tearing into Monday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the McKinleyville Panthers as they made off with a 13-5 win. Considering the Huskies have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Isabel Sanchez made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Fortuna let Mariah Bravo and Evalynn Little run wild. Bravo went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Little went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Bravo has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Olivia Hayes, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Fortuna pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for McKinleyville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.

Fortuna didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-8 loss against Del Norte on the 30th. As for McKinleyville, they have also already played their next match, an 8-3 victory against Eureka on the 30th.
