Preview: Canyon View Falcons vs. Manti Templars
The Canyon View Falcons will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Manti Templars at 7:00 p.m. Manti took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Canyon View, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Canyon View beat North Sanpete 46-39. The win was just what Canyon View needed coming off of a 60-30 defeat in their prior contest.
Maya Nichols was her usual excellent self, scoring 11 points along with three steals. Brooklyn Davie was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Manti suffered their biggest loss since December 14, 2023 on Tuesday. Their tough 69-48 defeat to Richfield might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Manti can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Richfield is ranked 19th).
Despite the defeat, Manti had strong showings from June Olsen, who scored 19 points, and Brooklyn Olson, who scored 12 points along with five steals. That was a full 39.6% of Manti's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Carlie Thompson, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
The victory got Canyon View back to even at 9-9. As for Manti, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.
Canyon View didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Manti in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 47-43 victory. Will Canyon View repeat their success, or does Manti have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
