Softball Recap: North Moore Mustangs vs. Jordan-Matthews Jets
If North Moore was riding high fresh off their 22-13 takedown of Southeast Alamance last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The North Moore Mustangs fell just short of the Jordan-Matthews Jets by a score of 5-4 on Friday. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Jets recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Sydney Russell put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Calissa Clendenin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Tate Allred, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Having lost for the first time this season, North Moore fell to 4-1. As for Jordan-Matthews, they pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Coming up, North Moore will venture away from home to challenge Bartlett Yancey at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Moore is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.6 runs per game this season. As for Jordan-Matthews, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Southeast Alamance at 6:00 p.m. Southeast Alamance knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Jordan-Matthews likes a good challenge.
