Central beats South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven] for their eighth straight win

The Central Raiders put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven] 72-40 at home. Fans of Central have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.

Jace Wunderlich continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 176 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.0 yards per carry, and also throwing for 219 yards and six touchdowns. Wunderlich is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Russ Smith, who picked up 104 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Despite the loss, South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven] still got an impressive performance from Alexb Smith, who rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 55 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Jackson Risley, who picked up 88 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Central's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven], their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central will take on Goessel at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Goessel will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Central is ranked ninth). As for South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven], they will be playing in front of their home fans against Herington at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
