Football Recap: Sand Creek Starts Season with Victory Against Denver East + How To Watch

Sand Creek took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the Denver East Angels 55-13. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Scorpions' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Angels are ranked 47th).

Sand Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ethan Mangrum, who rushed for 190 yards and four TDs while picking up 11.2 yards per carry. Mangrum's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his ninth straight game with at least 120 rushing yards dating back to last season. Treven Rick was another key player, rushing for 129 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.

Sand Creek's run defense was locked in: Denver East could only muster one yards per carry. While one picked up at least five total tackles, Jayden Salgado stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made five total tackles (1.5 for loss). Sand Creek didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 11.4.

Although Denver East took the loss, they still got scores from James Pillivant and George Morin.

Coming up, Sand Creek will challenge Harrison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Denver East, they will face off against Vista PEAK Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
