Basketball Game Preview: Alcorn Central Bears vs. Belmont Cardinals

Alcorn Central is 0-10 against Belmont since December of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Alcorn Central Bears will take on the Belmont Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

Last Thursday, everything came up roses for Alcorn Central against Ripley as the team secured a 60-32 win. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Tigers are ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Belmont challenged Pine Grove on Friday. Belmont blew past Pine Grove 54-19. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matches by 22 points or more this season.

Alcorn Central is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points per game. As for Belmont, their victory bumped their record up to 22-5.

Alcorn Central lost to Belmont on the road by a decisive 62-44 margin in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can Alcorn Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
