Basketball Game Preview: Meridian Bobcats vs. Vienna Eagles

The Meridian Bobcats and the Vienna Eagles will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Vienna will be up against a hot Meridian team: the squad just extended their winning streak to eight. Meridian really took it to Cobden for the full four quarters, racking up an 86-29 victory. With the Bobcats ahead 45-9 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vienna). They took their match on Monday with ease, bagging a 77-28 win over Zeigler-Royalton. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 639th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meridian pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.4 points per game. As for Vienna, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
