Baseball Game Preview: Heritage Christian Eagles vs. Lawrence Central Bears

The Heritage Christian Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Lawrence Central Bears at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Heritage Christian has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Heritage Christian managed to slip by Guerin Catholic the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Eagles lost 15-6 to the Golden Eagles on Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Alex Jackson made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Lawrence Central's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Pike on Wednesday. The Bears walked away with a 5-1 win over the Red Devils.

Jonathon Gates Jr. was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Gates Jr. was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Gates Jr. wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Solomon Rashid, who went 2-for-3 with two runs. Another was Darrell Rice, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Lawrence Central's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Heritage Christian, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-3.

Heritage Christian got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Lawrence Central by a conclusive 19-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
