Basketball Recap: Markel Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Western Branch over King's Fork

If Western Branch was riding high fresh off their 83-59 takedown of Grassfield last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Western Branch Bruins lost 92-68 to the King's Fork Bulldogs on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost seven in a row.

Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Markel Smith, who posted 19 points. Smith continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Camryn Clark, who scored 19 points.

Western Branch's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for King's Fork, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-2.

Western Branch has already played their next game, a 64-53 defeat against Nansemond River on the 11th. As for King's Fork, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 77-44 victory against Hickory on the 11th.
