The Noxubee County Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Choctaw County Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Friday. Noxubee County fell 31-26 to Winona. The contest was a 6-6 toss-up at halftime, but Noxubee County couldn't quite close it out.
Although Noxubee County took the loss, they still got scores from Laderoun Mosely, Keon Mason, Jykeim Goodwin, and Christon Glenn.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Choctaw County on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Aberdeen out of the water with a 43-8 final score. With the Chargers ahead 28-8 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Noxubee County better keep an eye on Jeramiah Miller. He was instrumental in Choctaw County's win, rushing for 158 yards and two scores while picking up 9.9 yards per carry, and also picking up 42 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Aston Lilley, who picked up 100 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
One reason for the win was Choctaw County's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Benjarvius Shumaker, Erion Rogers, and Vez Holman, who each picked up one sack apiece. Shumaker was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Choctaw County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.5 points over those games. As for Noxubee County, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Noxubee County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 222.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Choctaw County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 201 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Noxubee County couldn't quite get it done against Choctaw County in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 as they fell 34-27. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
