Game recap

MCALLEN, Texas - Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial (Alamo, Texas) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 28 points, drop to 10 before the final whistle blew on a 35-25 victory over McAllen (Texas).

The Wolverines were up 14-7 at the half after taking the lead on a Manny Mancillas touchdown run in the second quarter.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. PSJAM's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown pass by Jay Hernandez to Jaime Borrego.

The result came as a big surprise as the Bulldogs came in ranked No. 472 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Texas, while the Alamo school was ranked No. 604.

Borrego played well for the Wolverines in the victory. The senior wide receiver ran for one touchdown and caught one touchdown. He has now scored 11 touchdowns on the season.

McAllen's Fred Hover played well. The sophomore quarterback threw three touchdowns.

The victory will ease some of the sting of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's close 17-14 loss to MHS last season.

The win was a nice bounce back for PSJAM, which lost to Weslaco East last week, 23-20.
