Soccer Game Preview: Hueneme vs. Rio Mesa

The Hueneme Vikings and the Rio Mesa Spartans will round out the year against one another at at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Hueneme saw some tournament action on Friday. Neither they nor Knight could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, Rio Mesa waltzed into their contest on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 3-1. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 206th, while the Vikings are ranked 1018th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rio Mesa is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those eight matches. Hueneme's draw gives them a new season record of 1-6-2.
