Baseball Recap: Father Ryan Comes Up Short

Father Ryan had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 11-11 to make it four. They fell just short of the Brentwood Academy Eagles by a score of 3-2. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Hayden Yandell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Michael Mascari made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Kellen Stevens was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

As for Brentwood Academy, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 20-8 record. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

On Brentwood Academy's side, Drew Atkins tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Brentwood Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bek Ramer, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Ramer a new career-high. Another was Brody Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

While Father Ryan had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
