Game recap: Merritt Island High School Football Team defeats Palm Bay

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. - Merritt Island (Fla.) saw its 14-point lead dwindle to eight, but still managed to hang on and defeat Palm Bay (Melbourne, Fla.) 14-6 on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Nick Smith in the second quarter, the Mustangs were up 14-0 at the half.

Merritt Island saw its 14-point halftime lead decrease to eight entering the fourth.

Palm Bay's only touchdown came on a punt return in the third quarter.



MI came into the game allowing 11.4 points per game.

The loss comes after Palm Bay defeated Bishop Moore 49-23 last week. The loss snapped Palm Bay's three-game winning streak.
