Softball Game Preview: Valley Vikings vs. Johnson Warriors

The Valley Vikings will square off against the Johnson Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Burbank 40-32 on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Johnson entered their tilt with Fairfield on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 8-2 win. Considering the Warriors have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Angelene Gonzales made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anissa Zavala, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Leticia Gonzales, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

Johnson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in seven consecutive games.

Johnson's victory bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Valley, their win bumped their record up to 3-13.
