Baseball Recap: Palm Desert's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Palm Desert extended their winning streak to nine on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 19-4 in the process. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Newbury Park Panthers 4-2. That's two games straight that the Aztecs have won by exactly two runs.

Tyler Nicolay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Niko Guarino was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Newbury Park, they now have a losing record of 11-12. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but Palm Desert's pitcher proved too tough.

On Newbury Park's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Richter, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Palm Desert will host Shadow Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newbury Park, they will welcome Oaks Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
