Baseball Recap: Angola Hornets vs. Fairfield Falcons
Angola extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-6 in the process. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fairfield Falcons. If the Hornets were looking for revenge after losing 9-2 to the Falcons when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Fairfield, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games.
For Fairfield's part, Grady Garber was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Garber a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Garber wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Garrett Stoltzfus, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits Stoltzfus has posted since back in April of 2024. Another was Drew Beachy, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Angola will welcome Lakeland at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Fairfield, they will head out to challenge NorthWood at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 3.2, the Panthers 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
