Basketball Recap: Desert View Jaguars vs. Cienega Bobcats
The Desert View Jaguars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 15th straight loss. They were outmatched by Cienega at home and fell 52-15. Desert View has not had much luck with the Bobcats recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alexsandra Arce, who scored five points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Desert View struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Cienega pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
Cienega had a senior duo take command as Mia Kelley scored 17 points along with three steals and Taylor Hitchcock scored 13 points along with five assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Puente, who scored five points along with four steals.
Desert View has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 16 of their last 17 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-22 record this season. As for Cienega, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-12.
Desert View does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Cienega won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Apaches at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Nogales is ranked 99th, while the Bobcats are ranked 120th).
