Softball Recap: Merkel Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Merkel put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Reagan County Owls with a sharp 10-3 win. The Badgers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Owls, too.

Paisley Penney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoey Hedrick, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Homen, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Merkel's record now sits at 8-0. As for Reagan County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Coming up, Merkel will be taking part in a tournament against Stamford at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Reagan County, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Lake View at 5:00 p.m.
