Basketball Recap: Chesterfield Comes Up Short

After flying high against Buford last Friday, Chesterfield came back down to earth. The Chesterfield Golden Rams had to suffer through a 103-25 loss at the hands of the Andrew Jackson Volunteers. The match marked the Golden Rams' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Chesterfield's loss on Tuesday came despite strong showings from Reagan Rivers and Trinity Turnage. Rivers posted eight points, while Turnage earned six points. Rivers has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

It was another big night for Tamia Watkins, who dropped a double-double on 47 points and 17 boards for Andrew Jackson. That makes it three consecutive games in which Watkins has scored at least a third of Andrew Jackson's points. Ni?Yonna Asbelle was another key player, going 8 of 12 on her way to 18 points along with eight assists and five steals.

Chesterfield's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Andrew Jackson, they pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chesterfield has already played their next game (against Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Andrew Jackson will square off against York Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Andrew Jackson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 contests -- so hopefully York Prep likes a good challenge.
